IWSG - Long Time No See

I have not, with the exception of posting two reviews, been active in the blogosphere for approximately two months. With full-time responsibilities at work, at school (working toward a degree), and at, I don't know, a social life, I simply have not had the time—not even half an hour to write a blog post or accept an addition book for review.

And yet, I do not, as I often do, feel disassociated from my writing. In fact, I feel closer to the characters, the words, and the atmosphere than ever before. While I do not have enough time to make significant progress on anything, I do feel that my passion is closer to my every day life than it has ever been before. Though I hardly have the opportunity to sit down and crank out a page or two on any given day, I do certainly feel like a writer—or that I'm inching closer to the writer lifestyle which has always been my goal.

So I wouldn't say I'm feeling insecure about my writing, though I am definitely feeling that tug, the yanking in my chest, my heart going "We need this. Get those hands on that keyboard or your life will be a waste." And I'm proud to say that I'm not scared anymore about not being able to achieve my goals. I can see a writing future for me ahead, even if it's not an amazingly successful one. As long as I'm writing—fame and fortune or not—then I'm living.

Peace, Aimee

  2. Welcome back! I'm glad I'm not the only one that's been away for a while. And it's great that you're feeling good about your writing, prioritizing what you want to do within the framework of real-life. That's not an easy thing to do.

    Good luck and keep writing!

  4. What a wonderful place to be in! I think for writers to talk about the 'hills of confidence' is just as important as talking about the 'valleys of doubt', and I'm really glad you're sharing.

I can understand why you feel strong, too. I think that some of the most powerful writing I do has nothing to do with pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard. It happens inside of me as I learn things and as I grow in life. It's like a part of me, or my understanding about something, is coming to fruition, and putting it down in writing is often the middle or even the end step of the process.

I'm glad you're letting yourself know that you've grown! Good for you, Aimee! :)

  6. Hi Aimee-- I'm cohosting the IWSG this month-- nice to visit your blog. Good for you for having a healthy perspective. Life has seasons and there is a different emphasis and reason during each seasons. Sounds like work and school are your focus right now. Blogging, writing will all be there when that season arrives too.

  9. That tug means you're a true writer, whether you have the time to write or not. Soon that tug will become so great you'll have to make time, hehehe. Not being scared anymore is a huge step forward too.

  11. Such a touching post about the love of writing. True writers write for the love and connection first. I believe you're a real writer.

  12. I'm slowly developing that attitude. Writing becomes WAY more fun if you write for yourself first. I was beginning to get annoyed with it a little. Whenever someone asked me "How's the writing going?" I always thought I was a failure because I have no writing credits to my name, and nothing to show that I've been writing. Then I realized that I do: all the writing I've done, whether or not it's been rejected.

  14. That's awesome, Aimee! I truly think writing should be completely organic, that is, you do when it feels like you SHOULD be doing it, not because you have to meet some quota or something. And I know you WILL make it as a writer. I've read your work and you've got what it takes. You're so young, too, and have plenty of time to get to all things. Take your time. Just look how old I was when I first starting writing & got published. It's never too late. You're just starting to bloom!

Nice to see you again. I'm one of Alex's minions this month!
